Well-wishers at the Danville Senior Center Chinese New Year’s Celebration fed envelopes with offerings to the lion who danced to the exciting drum music around the Veterans Memorial Hall. More than 100 people gathered today for entertainment and lunch provided by China Paradise restaurant to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Rat.
The event was coordinated by Jennifer Gorman, along with Chia-Chia Chen, head of the Culture to Culture Foundation. Entertainment was by O-Mei Kung Fu Academy.
In addition to the professional entertainment, members of the Danville Senior Services dance classes entertained with a welcome dance and a scarf dance, and sang on the stage.
Prizes of Lotto tickets were given to the oldest woman in the room – 105! – and the oldest man, who was a mere 85; the longest married person – at 59 years; the person with the most grandchildren – 10; and to the two people were born in the Year of the Rat.

As I walked the loop in Danville today, I stopped to talk to a very lovely lady with her leg quite high above shoulder. She made me miss my many days in Asia. Then your story and pictures; applause!
