A 4.0 earthquake struck Alamo at 9 p.m. tonight. Residents described it as a prolonged shaking that lasted almost 10 seconds.

The earthquake was felt at Alamo Safeway, where it knocked shampoo bottles to the floor.

“It was pretty strong,” said bookkeeper Theresa Duenida shortly afterward. “Everything is fine except for in the shampoo area, where some things dropped off the shelf.”

She said not many shoppers were in the supermarket when the quake hit.

The Alamo earthquake’s epicenter was two miles east-northeast of Alamo, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The depth was measured at 16.2 kilometers.

Five minutes later a 1.9 quake took place centered 5 miles north-northeast of Blackhawk.
