Fire crews from multiple agencies extinguished a vegetation fire Wednesday afternoon in the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness that burned approximately 40 acres. San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District spokeswoman Kim French said the fire was near the west end of Bollinger Canyon Road.
A jogger reported smoke in the area just after 2 p.m. and San Ramon Valley Fire crews were first on scene. The fire was fast moving and crews from San Ramon Valley Fire, Cal Fire, Alameda County Fire, Contra Costa County Fire, East Bay Parks Fire, Moraga Orinda Fire and East Bay Municipal Utilities District all worked to contain the 40-acre brush fire.
“The fire was contained quickly because of the cooperation between all the fire jurisdictions on scene,” said Battalion Chief Mike Brown. “This fire had the potential of growing very quickly; with the coordinated effort from crews in the air and on the ground we were able to extinguish the fire in less than two hours.”
The forward progress of the fire was stopped at 3:10 p.m., according to the duty officer at Cal Fire, and the fire was completely contained by 3:59 p.m.
French said the fire was limited to vegetation and no structures were endangered and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Smoke from the fire, driven by easterly winds, traveled over the top of the hills and spread down through Danville and the San Ramon Valley and across I-680.
San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District urges residents to prepare their home and family for wildfire. Start by creating 100 feet of defensible space around the home, next confirm that house numbers are clearly visible from the street, and finally develop a family disaster plan that includes escape routes and emergency supply kits for the home and car.
