Sign up for the Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship Foundation’s second annual Golf Classic and Gala being held at Crow Canyon Country Club on Monday, Aug. 10, and soldiers returning from the Mideast to return to civilian life. Golf tickets that include dinner are still available at $275 per player; dinner only is $50.

At 4 p.m., the event will include a special wine pairings and cooking demonstration. The gala dinner will feature comedian Bob Sarlatte. Auction items include Tiger Woods autographed Masters Golf hat, Maui and Tahoe vacations, 49ers and Raiders paraphernalia. Thus far, the Sentinels of Freedom Foundation has placed 51 veterans in communities across the country. Ten Sentinels will attend the gala. For tickets, call 989-0100.

Mike Conklin, founder of the Sentinels of Freedom, was inducted this week into the rolls of the Honorary Members of the 75th Ranger Regiment. The Danville resident traveled to Fort Benning, Ga., for the induction that took place Aug. 4 in conjunction with Ranger Rendezvous events scheduled the first week in August.

“Your unparalleled service to and support of The Regiment is worthy of the honor you have been bestowed,” wrote Col. Rich Clarke when informing Conklin of the honor.

Conklin is chairman and CEO of the Sentinels of Freedom, an organization based in San Ramon that helps those severely injured from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan return to civilian life and achieve their life goals.
