Whether you’re looking for delicious dim sum or just an entertaining afternoon, you couldn’t do better than to attend the second annual Senior Volunteer Awards Ceremony.
More than two dozen seniors from throughout Contra Costa County were nominated for the awards, and 10 semifinalists have been chosen. They will be honored along with the four finalists, who receive cash prizes, and a 103-year-old woman who will get a special award for being the oldest volunteer.
“The names are kept secret until the awards ceremony adding to the surprise,” said Alamo resident Chia-Chia Chien , founder of the Culture to Culture Foundation, which sponsors the awards. “I equate it with the Emmy or Academy awards.”
The festivities will include the awards, entertainment and then delicious refreshments, and it’s open to the public and free.
“It’s really a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon,” said organizer Linda Stolow, a Danville resident. “We are all about encouraging volunteerism.”
The event takes place at 2 p.m., Sunday. Oct. 25, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1924 Trinity Ave. in Walnut Creek. To RSVP, call 938-9988 or e-mail seniorawards@sbcglobal.net.
