What’s in a name? In this case, a generous $100,000 gift.
The restoration and expansion of the Veterans Memorial Building in Danville received a significant boost this past week with a lead gift of $100,000 from David and Dana Dornsife.
“The committee is thrilled to receive such a generous gift and will be celebrating the donation by naming the North Terrace on Hartz Avenue in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Dornsife,” said Capital Campaign Chairwoman Karen Stepper in receiving the pledge on behalf of the Veterans Development Committee.
Dave Dornsife is chairman of the board of the Herrick Corp., a Stockton-based steel fabrication and installation company. He is a 1965 graduate of the USC Marshall School of Business, where he is now a trustee and serves on the board of directors for the Brain and Creativity Institute through the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. In 2003, the Dornsifes gave an $8 million lead gift to establish the Dana and David Dornsife Cognitive Neuroscience Imaging Center in the College. Dana Dornsife received her undergraduate degree in business from Drexel University in Philadelphia.
Dana and Dave have a long history of philanthropy in the San Ramon Valley and throughout the world. Recently they formed the Lazarex Foundation in Danville, with the mission of providing resources for cancer patients who’ve been told they have no other options, but who are not yet done with their journey in life and refuse to give up.
The restored and expanded Veterans Memorial Building will serve as the home of all San Ramon Valley Veterans as well as a wide range of senior citizens activities and other community events. The Danville Town Council has committed $5 million toward the restoration effort, and the Veterans Memorial Building Development Committee of San Ramon Valley has facilitated the transfer of the property and has launched a $3.4 million dollar community fundraising effort.
We are excited about a lead gift for the Veterans Memorial Building Redevelopment project,” said

What a wonderful and generous contribution! As a resident of Danville, a supporter of veterans, and potential user of the senior center, I thank you for this gift and the other work you do on behalf of cancer patients and others.
