The Mustang Magic U11 girls wrapped up their 2009 soccer season as League Champions, as well as winning the Super 2 Bracket for NorCal State Cup. The Magic boasted a 7-1-1 record in their nine games en route to the State Cup finals, where the best of the best in Northern California meet up.
Players Nicole Emerson, Jessa Benson, Stephanie Shields, Shelby Bertolozzi, and Morgan Mahre, along with strong support in the middle from Shanna Keil and Emma Belkin, scored 26 goals for the team over the course of State Cup play. Defensively, Maya Nielan, Julia vanWarmerdam, Emma Hight, Mia Maloney and goal keeper Whitney Lincoln held their opponents to only 5 goals in all of regulation play.
The Final victory came in a defensive battle against the San Juan Spirits, in which no goals were scored in regulation and two overtime periods – it all came down to PK’s. The Magic were up for the challenge, netting all five attempts for the win.
