Visit the muse this weekend. The Eugene O’Neill Foundation, Tao House, is partnering with the Museum of the San Ramon Valley to present “A Touch of the Poet” as a staged reading, at the museum.
“A Touch of the Poet” was written by Eugene O’Neill in 1936, but was first staged posthumously in the late 1950s. This is the only play of a planned 11-part American History cycle that O’Neill completed.
“This play is a wonderful example of O’Neill’s genius for combining many universal themes into one drama,” according to the Foundation. “It is a family saga, a love story, and an engrossing tale of a quest for the American dream.”
The play will be presented as a staged reading, featuring professional Bay Area actors, directed by Foundation board member Eric Fraisher Hayes.
Performances will take place at 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9; and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 10. Tickets are $20; student tickets are $10. Call the Foundation at 820-1818; e-mail xxx; or go to its Web site, www.eugeneoneill.org/. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The Museum of the San Ramon Valley is located at 205 Railroad Ave. in Danville.
The Eugene O’Neill Foundation, Tao House, celebrates and promotes the vision and legacy of Eugene O’Neill, America’s foremost playwright, by providing artistic and educational programs which focus on O’Neill’s contribution to the American theater and the world. The Foundation also collaborates with the National Park Service to restore and preserve Tao House, O’Neill’s home in the hills above Danville.
