Dogs are a reader’s best friend during the popular Paws to Read literacy program at the Danville Library, which is starting up on Monday.

Students in grades one to five can read alongside certified therapy dogs to improve reading skills. Recent studies have reportedly shown that reading to dogs can help elementary students develop reading fluency.

The Danville Library offers the free program in partnership with the Valley Humane Society. Registration is required and parents can only register their child for up to three sessions. Children who attend should not be fearful of dogs or have pet allergies.

To register, and learn more about the program, call 837-4889.
