RED Day? What does that stand for? To Keller Williams real estate professionals, it stands for “renew, energize and donate.” About 170 volunteers came out for Red Day to do good service and give back to the community this morning.
Keller Williams closed its Danville office this morning, and at least 65 of its Realtors went to 13 different locations to do volunteer work. Each of them was wearing special red T-shirts for the event that said “RED Day 2010. Give Where You Live.”
One of the locations on the list was the Bruns House in Alamo, run by Hospice and Palliative Care of Contra Costa, where families can care for a dying loved one. Volunteers Angela Muetterties and Angelo Vinci were sweeping in the courtyard.
“We are doing basic yard cleanup to get ready for summer,” said Muetterties.
Later, she said, more volunteers would come and clean walkers and the memorial bricks in the yard, pick flowers from the garden, and make bouquets for the residents. They may stay to help make dinner.
At the corner of Pine Valley Road and Tarreyton in San Ramon, about 40 sixth-graders from San Ramon Valley Christian Academy in Danville were going to help prune bushes, paint barriers, and do general trash pickup along the trail.
“Keller Williams is like a family,” said Robert Jenkins, a real estate profession. “We work like a team and want the community to look fresh, new and nice.”
“This is kind of like a random act of kindness and we feel very strongly about working together to make our community look good,” Jenkins went on to say.
Keller Williams associates said they are able to do volunteer projects like this, thanks to donations from their clients, community and other Realtors.
“RED Day means giving back to the community,” said Realtor Elisa Beltran. “We close down all offices across the nation, including Canada.”
