An online survey has been created to allow area residents to give input on the future of Hap Magee Ranch Park. The Joint Planning and Operations Committee, on behalf of the Alamo Municipal Advisory Council and the Town of Danville, will use the results to assist them in planning improvements for the park.

Access the survey online at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/parkpatronsurvey. Questions look at the current usage of the facility and examines what new programs and amenities would be most desired in the Phase 3 planning effort set to begin in 2010-11.

Residents will have access to the survey until the middle of July.

  1. Dear Emily,

Neighborhoods in e-exchanges and discussion groups discussed R-7A parks and recreation offering in Alamo and the Contra Costa LAFCO report that illustrated only a minority of Alamo residents use the parks and programs that Alamo parcel taxes provide. Clearly, parks and recreation in Alamo are primarily used by non-residents including Hap Magee Park and its use mostly by Danville residents.

Although the survey provided received very little response from Alamo residents, it was used as an agenda for discussions. What makes this an important issue is the size of the parcel tax fund that might be employed to further serve residents other than parcel tax payer in Alamo. Nearly $4 million is available to create more parks, trails, and programs and quite appropriately Danville and district 3, via their MAC, need to recognize how Alamo residents wish such money employed.

It leaves an obvious question for your journalism, Emily, “If Alamo parcel tax payers do not use the parks and programs their parcel taxes pay for, then what should be done with the money to better serve Alamo?”

    Write well,

    Hal/CDSI
