The Diablo Symphony Orchestra, along with singers from the Diablo Theatre Company, will put on a special concert performance to celebrate the 20th year of the Lesher Arts Center in Walnut Creek. The show, taking place at 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14 in the Hofmann Theatre, will include music from five award-winning Broadway shows.

Diablo Theatre Company performers include Rena Wilson, who now appears in San Francisco’s “Becah Blanket Babylon;” Nephi Speer, who has performed on area stages for 15 years; Melynda Kiring, who has been in DTC productions “Ragtime” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” and Derrick Silva, who performed in the Company’s “Curtains” earlier this year and is the director of the Contra Costa Civic Theatre in El Cerrito.

Maestro Joyce Johnson Hamilton will conduct the symphony’s musical salutes to composers Stephen Sondheim — recognized for the lyrics he wrote for “West Side Story” and “Gypsy” — and Andrew Lloyd Webber — who is known for “Evita” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”

The concert will also feature a symphonic suite from “Les Miserables,” the hit musical that won the hearts of audiences throughout the world.

The Lesher Arts Center opened in October 1990 at 1601 Civic Drive. Tickets for the concert are on sale there; $37 for adults, $35 for seniors and $25 for youth. They are also available by phone 943-7469 or online at www.lesherartscenter.com.
