Chris Hopkins said his son Kasch, 7, is often known as the Crocodile Hunter of Danville, “catching everything from tarantulas, scorpions and friendlier snakes.” This time they, along with daughter Holly, 10, caught a pencil-sized rattle snake at Montair Elementary School.

“This particular snake is very dangerous because it is so small and found feet from the playground,” Chris Hopkins said.

The school was said to have sent an email to parents and staff alerting them of the small intruder and the district was said to have searched the area.

Hopkins said they planned to let the snake go on Mount Diablo Tuesday afternoon.
