A Berkeley man accused of killing a San Ramon Valley High School student will stand trial on Dec. 5.
Walter Bell, 20, is charged with murdering Rylan Fuchs, 17, during an attempted marijuana robbery. The teen was shot outside his parent’s home on Jan. 20, 2009.
Bell pleaded not guilty to the charges during a Contra Costa County Superior Court appearance and told prosecutors that the gunfire was accidental.

Anyone else amazed at how long it takes to get a murder case prosecuted?
Yes, there’s only a few cases in danville I actually follow, this is one of them.
Derek: I agree with you 100%, it takes way too long to bring a murder case to trial. Problem is the criminal defendant can waive his right to a speedy trial, causing one delay after another, and there is no requirement that the DA have a right to a speedy trial. Waiting this long is painful for the families of the victims of the criminal justice system.
