The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District responded to both a second alarm structure fire and a 20 acre vegetation fire around 8 p.m. last Friday.

On Sept. 9, Station 37 volunteers along with Station 36 firefighters, CalFire and Contra Costa County Fire responded to a vegetation fire just after 8 p.m. along Morgan Territory Road in Livermore. The fire began as a result of lightning in the area. No structures were treated and no injuries were reported.

Later, at 8:40 p.m., crews responded to a single-story home located at 482 El Pintado Road in Danville. A total of six engines, two trucks, three chief officers, one fire investigator and one safety officer were dispatched to the scene.

Crews from Station 31 arrived to discover the home fully involved with fire and flames visible through the roof. Firefighters immediately began fighting the fire and were able to successfully extinguish it in less than an hour.

One resident was at home at the time of the fire and self-evacuated. The resident along with neighbors reported the fire to the 911 Dispatch Center after seeing fire and smoke.

The structure sustained one million dollars in damage in addition to $400,000 in content loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District reminds residents to be on heightened alert during red flag days and to make sure they have working smoke detectors on every level of their home, outside all sleeping areas and in all bedrooms. Test each smoke detector once a month and remember to change the batteries when you change your clocks twice a year.
