Shelby Harris, a 15-year-old Amador Valley High School student missing since Halloween day, was located early Sunday morning in Westley, Calif. and has since been returned safely to her parents, Pleasanton police reported.

A police investigation determined Harris was most likely in the company of Gavin McFate, 25, who is wanted on an Alameda County felony arrest warrant.

Harris and McFate were located after an anonymous tip was called into the Pleasanton police department. The caller told police he had watched the news and remembered seeing Harris and McFate in the Westley area. Pleasanton detectives traveled to Westley early Sunday morning and located the two staying at a motel off of Interstate 5.

Police said Harris is cooperating with their investigation.

McFate was arrested on his Alameda County warrant and booked at Santa Rita jail without incident.

Pleasanton police Lieutenant Jeff Bretzing said Shelby’s family was very relieved that their daughter was returned safely. Police also thanked everyone who helped them in the search that led to finding the couple.

Harris was last seen by friends and family on Halloween day at Amador. She told her parents that she would return home at the end of the school day. She was still wearing a Halloween costume consisting of a red cape, red shirt, blue jeans, black high heels, and a Mardi Gras mask when she was last seen.

She was seen again on the morning of Nov. 1 with McFate and in the Concord area. It is unknown at this time if Harris was with McFate voluntarily or against her will.
