District 2 Supervisor Gayle Uilkema is seeking San Ramon Valley residents to fill seats on the oversight boards for various redevelopment successor agencies. Redevelopment Agencies (RDAs) across California were eliminated by the state last year in a move by Gov. Jerry Brown to prop up the state’s budget; successor agencies have been set up to manage RDA debt.
Pursuant to Assembly Bill x1 26, counties and cities will close out the remaining business of the former RDA under the direction of an oversight board. In Contra Costa County, each district supervisor will nominate candidates for appointment to city Oversight Boards located within their area of influence. Supervisor Uilkema will be forwarding a recommendation of 10 nominees (three will be in concert with Supervisor Karen Mitchoff of District 4) to the Board of Supervisors.
Two seats each are available on San Ramon and Danville’s oversight boards, and must include one public member not currently serving as an elected official. Lafayette and Walnut Creek both have three open seats. Candidates must be a resident of District 2, which covers San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, Orinda, Moraga, Canyon, Lafayette and part of Walnut Creek.
Each oversight board is an independent decision-making body with a fiduciary responsibility to holders of enforceable obligations of the former RDA and the taxing entities that remain in the former redevelopment project areas. Board actions will be overseen by the State Department of Finance and may be subject to disapproval or modification; seat terms will be defined by each board once constituted.
Applications can be obtained from the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors by calling 335-1900 or by visiting the County website. Applications should be returned to Supervisor Gayle B. Uilkema, 651 Pine Street-1st Floor Room 108A, Martinez, CA 94553 no later than Friday, March 16th, 2012 at 5 pm.
