A man committed suicide in broad daylight on a Danville downtown street Friday afternoon, police confirmed Tuesday.
The death took place at a parking lot at the end of Rose Avenue; police are not releasing the name of the 23-year-old man who hanged himself.
“We got a call at 2:30 because somebody pulled in and saw something that was unusual,” Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins said. “We pulled up and checked it out.”
He said at first glance, it was impossible to tell that the man had taken his own life.
“You would have to take a closer look,” Simpkins said. “It wasn’t one of those things that was immediately obvious. On closer inspection, it was determined to be a suicide.”
The Danville Express only reports on suicides that occur in public places.

Visitation tomorrow, services thursday for those who knew him. <3 RIP
How very sad for this young man and the family he must have left behind. A comment was made regarding visitation tomorrow and services on Thursday, but with no location and time for anyone that may want to attend.
It is sad that this young person had to take his life. We will never know what lead him to this and if he had family and friends that may have tried to help. We don’t know why depression overtook him and why he gave up. Suicide leaves everyone wondering why. Having experienced it in my own family oftentimes the signs are subtle and the person hides their problems. Depression is seen as a sign of weakness when it is an insidious mental disease. We can just pray for his family and hope that he is at peace now.
For those of you who are in the area and can attend, the viewing will be Wednesday from 5-8pm and the memorial service will be at 4pm on Thursday. Services will be held at Chapel of San Ramon Valley 825 Hartz Way Danville, CA
What a terrible tragedy. One resource that his friends and family may want to use is the Contra Costa Crisis Center. They have support groups and individual counselors for those who have suffered the suicide of a loved one, and they do great work (which I can say with some sadness I have experienced firsthand). http://www.crisis-center.org/
Does anyone know the identity of this poor soul?
It would be important for someone to disclose the identity of this young man — that way it would discourage the looky-loos. The family is going thru enough pain without having a bunch of strangers at the visitation.
If you want to know the name, just put two and two together. He was 23 and his service is in Danville tomorrow. There’s one funeral home in Danville. The young man’s name and picture are on their web site.
What a shame…
This is a very very sad situation. I have known the family for many years and my kids grew up with this family. This young man along with his siblings were a wonderful family with typical family issues as we all have. I can tell you that not that long ago he stood in my front foyer and said “Don’t you remember me, I am _______?” That typical question of most any older and grown up child that frequented our lives as life goes on. The kids to me are still kids and always will be as I am a mother of three myself. I look to notice only the good things in all and to imagine that this young man was contemplating suicide is not something I saw in his eyes only that innocent young boy who I used to know. He meant the world to many especially those of his immediate family and I can only say that please for your brother and son get the help you need to get you thru this unfortunate loss and do celebrate his life and show him the strength to break that vicious circle by being their for each other so this does not happen to you or anyone. You are worth it and your brother, son, cousin, nephew, etc. is worth it too.
Love and Peace be with you all, my deepest sympathy. DK
We’re these two or three apparent recent suicides related? They appear to be similar ages.
