Tired of baby gear that’s fit for the nursery but not for a nice lunch? Moms on the go can now have it all: chic, affordable style that’s practical for your busy life.
Danville-based Foxy Vida creates no-fuss functional bags and clutches for the style-seeking mom. Foxy Vida diaper bags, clutches and wet bag sets are made with trendy patterns and fabrics that are can be used and re-used during all stages of childhood development.
“Our bags are for somebody who want a stylish option in lieu of the typical ‘mom bag.’ These great bags are lightweight and functional, so she can focus on her daily activities with baby in tow,” said Foxy Vida creator Mary Montane. “We want to enable that mom to transition from play dates and mom’s groups to down time or a night out with her girlfriends, all with the same bag.”
Montane first created her line of bags — which feature hip Chevron zigzags, tasteful animal prints and damask prints; two years ago while pregnant with her daughter. None of the bags quite fit her unique style, so Montane put her arts background to work and developed a bag that watch both functional and stylish. The first prototypes were released in 2012 with the name Foxy Vida, after her daughter Giana Vida, with help from her sister Amy Hutchins.
Foxy Vida received immediate response from savvy moms looking to simplify and stylize their totes. Rather than carry a purse and separate bag set for baby, Foxy moms combine fashion and function to make their busy lives easier.
“Almost everything is washable and always affordable, all the things you look for being a mom. You want to make sure you have the best of both worlds,” Montane said. “Most of our diaper bags can be thrown in the washing machine and dryer and often get better with time because the heat seals the polyurethane laminate in our waterproof linings.”
Montane learned the importance of simplicity and sturdiness firsthand as a contestant on Survivor in 2008. Forced to give up everything and survive with just her wits and know-how, Montane had time to reflect on her superfluous items and how to make the needs of a new mom more practical for her on-the-go lifestyle.
Whether it’s a diaper clutch set with yellow chevron patterns or a wet bag with a colorful elephant print, the sophisticated and playful bags will be used for years to come as your child’s needs change. Foxy Vida products are designed to carry over into the next stage of your life with dual uses as a beach tote, jewelry organizer, toiletry case for travel or simply a cute purse.
Foxy Vida bags are made in Danville and San Francisco, with a percentage of all purchases are donated to charities such as Children’s Hospital in Oakland and the East Bay SPCA. Foxy Vida bags can be found at The Nest and Dandelion in downtown Danville and at Bloom in Walnut Creek, with nationwide distribution coming soon.
Foxy Vida is hosting a sale in advance of its spring launch; coupons for 20 percent off are available on Etsy and Facebook with the code DANVILLE20.
