A 20-year-old Danville man is facing five felony charges in connection with a Wednesday morning residential robbery in which a woman and her child were held at gunpoint, according to a release from Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins.
The incident occurred at 11:43 a.m. in the 1000 block of Fountain Springs Circle, where a resident returning home found an intruder inside her house.
The intruder pointed a gun at the homeowner and her child, holding them hostage briefly and forcing them to move through the house before fleeing.
The two were held “a very short period,” Simpkins said.
Detectives working on the investigation developed a suspect, 20-year-old Brendan Fagen, of Danville.
Fagen was arrested without incident Wednesday and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. He was booked on two counts of kidnapping with intent to commit robbery, and one count each of burglary, robbery and false imprisonment. He is being held on $2,175,000 bail.
Detectives are actively investigating the case, as two handguns, a .40 caliber and a .45 caliber, stolen from the home, Simpkins said. The two pistols have not been recovered.
“A small amount of other property was stolen, but our focus is on the guns for safety reasons,” Simpkins said.

Keep a gun at home for safety, not properly locked and secured and it is stolen and become just another statistic of gun violence. To keep guns, especially hand guns in the home, there should at the very minimum be a requirement that the owner sign off on the requirement to have a gun security system such as a safe or other mechanism, registration, just like a car and proper training in order to own a hand gun. Now watch the 2nd amendment people scream when logic and common sense concepts are put forth.
It’s not a question of 2nd amendment screaming, Bill. It’s simply that people who have a gun at home want to have it handy when an intruder arrives. Keeping it in a safe would defeat that purpose.
Sorry Lewy boy, but I’m in 1000% agreement with Bill. Irresponsible gun owners are almost as big of a problem as irresponsible gun store owners and gun show exhibitors. By the “keep it handy” logic, if the burglar beats you home, your own gun could easily be used on you. How ironic would that be? And how many kids do you think die every single year because of accidents in homes owned by people like you?

He was on the SRV / Lax team. Got caught smoking pot in the locker room. Nothing happened to him. Maybe if the Coach, Athletic Director and Parents would have done the right thing we wouldn’t be reading this disgusting story.
I suggest you actually get to know him before making comments like that ‘john smith’ i would like to clarify that he has infact not been charged for anythig yet so therefore he’s innocent until they have substantial evidence to prove he did anything at all.
I do know him. Every thing I stated in my earlier post is 100% accurate. The authorities must believe they have something on him to warrant such a high bail.
Brendan is a good kid and hasn’t been proven guilty just yet. So stop talking about him like the scum of the earth like some child molester. Did anyone die? No. Was it his gun? No. He didn’t have any intent to harm anyone or anything so shut up son…and who knows maybe he is the wrong guy all together in fact I wouldn’t be surprised to be honest.
Re: the comment above – I agree we need to remember that there is a legal process that must take place in order to convict. I would hazard to guess you are a friend of the young man in question, so I don’t blame you for coming to his aid. That said, if it is found that it was him that held this woman and child at gunpoint (therefore changing their lives forever), it doesn’t matter whether the gun was registered to him, or whether it was his intent to inflict harm. It would stand to reason that prisons are filled with people who had no intent to harm their victims, but panicked when discovered while robbing their homes.
Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Truth of the matter is that by the time most kids graduate high school, most have smoked pot on one or more occasions. Because this kid got caught, does not make him any more “disgusting” than you or the rest of the kids you went to school with, John Smith– so don’t be a judgmental hypocrite. My thoughts go out to the mother and child that were involved in this, I hope they are able to overcome the psychological trauma they must be faced with. There are a few things that bother me about this article, and the comments that follow the article. First off, what was the process in developing this kid as a suspect? Was he positively ID’d,was the property of the victim found in his possession? I hope that Danville PD has done a thorough job, and have something more than just a hunch before releasing his name to the public to have a field day with. Though we are lucky to have many wonderful officers that connect with our community, lets face it, as with any department, some still have not outgrown the “big boy on campus” attitude and can be a little too eager to show some power. I just hope for a fair and accurate investigation to all of this. If it is proven without a doubt that he did it, then he will have to accept his punishment; however, if it is found that he is innocent, I HOPE that Danville PD will make that information known, and that Danville Express and Danville Patch will show responsible journalism and make every effort to clear his name. Remember, he is from our community, there is a family unit that is having to go through this right now through no fault of their own. I just hope for a fair process for all involved.
