Three men associated with a murder and robbery at the Gold N Treasures store at 2550 San Ramon Valley Blvd. last summer have been ordered to stand trial.
According to reports, three Hayward men — Krishneel Prasad, 20, Gregory Jamal Louis, 22, and Michael Porter, 21 — will stand trial on three counts of robbery and murder charges for an accomplice’s death in the May 30 incident. A two-day preliminary hearing was held in Contra Costa County Superior Court prior to the Thursday announcement.
Authorities are still looking for the final suspect, 20-year-old Manual Jovan Arroyo of Hayward. Arroyo is also thought to have ties to Walnut Creek and is wanted on the same charges.
The four men allegedly attempted to rob the jewelry store at around 4:30 p.m. on May 30. The victims and witnesses reported that four suspects entered the store, said police; at least one of them was armed with a handgun.
Store personnel and a customer were present at the time of the robbery, according to police reports. During the robbery, a victim armed himself with a handgun and shot the armed suspect, who was identified as Kibrom Bairu, 18, a Hayward resident.
The suspects fled from the store, and suspect Bairu collapsed on San Ramon Valley Boulevard in front of the store, police said. He was arrested by arriving officers and transported to San Ramon Valley Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead. The other three suspects left the scene in a mid-90s white sedan.
The men in custody are charged with murdering Bairu under the provocative act doctrine, which holds active crime participants liable for a homicide when it occurs in the course of the crime.
Prasad, Louis and Porter will return to court on April 8 and remain in jail. According to reports, Prasad and Louis’ bail is $1 million. Porter’s bail is higher, $2.9 million, because he was on parole for robbery at the time of the Gold N Treasures incident.
