A Contra Costa County fire station was burglarized while firefighters were battling the Morgan Fire on Sunday, a fire district spokesman said.
Firefighters returned to Fire Station No. 7 at 1050 Walnut Ave. in Walnut Creek on Sunday evening after battling the wildfire and noticed that some items had been moved around, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman Steve Aubert said.
A sweep of the station revealed that someone had taken two firefighters’ weddings rings and money, as well as a captain’s iPad, he said.
Aubert said there was also a burglary attempt at Fire Station No. 3 at 1520 Rossmoor Parkway in Walnut Creek at about 2:30 a.m. Monday while
firefighters were asleep.
The perpetrator tried to break in through a back window screen at the station but firefighters woke up, prompting the would-be burglar to flee,
he said.
Aubert said he did not know if the two incidents are related.
“We’re going to be evaluating the security at each of the stations to provide a better level of security for the department’s resources and personnel,” Aubert said.

Maybe, just maybe, the heroes should lock the door when they leave the station. Evaluate the security, indeed. Make sure the insurance claims are evaluated as well.

Julia, FYI- these “Heroes” have had their wallets and other items stolen from the fire trucks while out on calls trying to save lives. Get a clue in the real world. It has nothing to do with insurance claims and I find it repulsive and demeaning you would even make such a comment.
This is disgusting.
It’s particularly revolting on the anniversary of 9/11, when we as a nation are (or should be) paying tribute and remembering all of those first responders and others who gave all.

Julia, that is one of the most selfish comments I’ve heard. These brave men and women are out fighting a huge FIRE, risking their lives and saving people’s homes, and you are worried about insurance premiums? I wonder what you would say if it was your home that was threatened. For me, all I will say is THANK YOU to these heroes and remember with love and respect all those who lost their lives on 9/11.

While you seem to take pleasure in being the non-conformist, it never occurred to me (and I’m guessing to a lot of other people as well) that you really are an idiot. The only thing you got correct in your stupid post was these individuals are heroes. But just so you understand completely, the Fire Station was locked and the low-life scum forced their way in by breaking through a locked door. Your demeaning remark about evaluating the insurance claims as well has cemented your character to be judged as low as the scumbags who robbed the firefighters. Get a life.

I would have thought that there’d be some level of security cameras inside and/or outside the fire station, so maybe they’ll be able to figure out who did this.
Mr. Mudgeon, I am frequently impressed by how you avoid jumping on the “Julia is the devil” bandwagon. Myself, I sometimes get derailed by that particular nasty personality and forget the real issue at hand.
When I hear of stories like these, I think of the words of the immortal Mr. Rogers, quoting what his mother used to tell him when bad things happened: “look for the helpers.” I understand there are companies and individuals alike that are contributing to get stolen items replaced. Well done.
