A 25-year-old Concord woman was struck by multiple cars and killed on Interstate 680 near the Walnut Creek BART station early this morning, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.

The woman’s name has not been released. She appears to have either jumped or fallen from a BART train track over-crossing onto southbound I-680 north of the Olympic Boulevard exit, CHP Officer John Fransen said.

The CHP is investigating whether it was a suicide.

Fransen said the CHP received reports around 12:15 a.m. of a possible dead body in the road.

Officers arriving on the scene found the woman’s body and saw that she had been struck by multiple cars, he said.

All southbound lanes at the scene of the crash were closed for about 30 minutes until one lane was reopened. All lanes reopened around 2:50 a.m., Fransen said.

Neither the CHP or BART police could confirm whether the fatal collision was connected to a medical emergency reported around the same time at the Walnut Creek BART station.

Both agencies are investigating the collision.
