Friends of a Danville web designer who died in a head-on collision last weekend have started a fundraising effort to help defray funeral costs and benefit the man’s young daughter.
Geoffrey Mapplebeck, 25, was killed after crashing his Saab into an oncoming Subaru Forester on Crow Canyon Road between San Ramon and Castro Valley the afternoon of Nov. 10, according to the California Highway Patrol.
In the aftermath of the fatal wreck, some of Mapplebeck’s closest supporters have turned their focus to his 5-year-old daughter, Elayna, said friend Alex Gladding.
Gladding helped set up a fundraising drive to collect money for Mapplebeck’s funeral and to open a college trust for young Elayna.
The effort had raised nearly $9,600 as of late Sunday night, according to GiveForward, the website hosting the fundraiser.
“Heart goes out to the Mapplebeck family,” friend Justin Damele wrote on GiveForward after making a donation. “Although Geoff and I lost contact after high school, there were lots of good memories from our younger days.”
