The San Ramon Valley school board is set to consider awarding a nearly $27.6 million contract for the construction of Dougherty Valley’s new Bella Vista Elementary School on Tuesday night (Oct. 7).
Benicia-based Lathrop Construction Associates, Inc., is in line to serve as general contractor for the project, having been chosen as the most qualified firm following the school district’s selection process.
The contract, set to not exceed $27,578,072, includes approximately $1.2 million for the possible construction of a child care facility at Bella Vista Elementary — a component that has not yet been confirmed for the project.
The overall cost of the project was increased in early September to roughly $31.7 million, to be funded primarily through the Measure D school facilities bond. Expected to open in time for the 2016-17 school year, the new campus will sit on a 7.4-acre site in southwestern Dougherty Valley, approximately half a mile from the Dougherty Station Community Center and Library.
The Bella Vista construction contract is among a handful of items set for the school board’s open-session meeting, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Tuesday inside the boardrooms at 699 Old Orchard Drive in Danville.
In other business, board members will discuss setting the time-line for development of the district’s 2015-16 Local Control and Accountability Plan and annual budget.
The board will receive presentations about multi-tiered student support in the district and the TRAFFIX program, which aims to address congestion caused by school-related traffic in the San Ramon Valley’s busiest intersections.
The school board will also consider adopting a resolution in support of October as National Bullying Prevention Month.
