A women’s tennis team from the San Ramon Valley took second place at a national championship earlier this month.

The Diablo Women’s Tennis Team represented the Northern California region at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) League Adult 18 & Over 2.5 National Championships.

The competition was held in Southern California at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Oct. 17-19. The Diablo team advanced to the championship match after winning its round-robin flight Oct. 17 and 18, and then defeating a Washington team 2-1 in the semifinal on Oct. 19.

A team from Chappaqua, New York won the event by beating the Diablo Women’s Tennis Team 2-1 in the championship match.

The local team plays at the Diablo Country Club and its members are Kirsten Miks, Tricia Blechman, Rattana Graff, Molly Maguire, Jennifer Walsh, Ivona Smith, Liliana Scott and the captain is Joelle Stockslager.
