The San Ramon Valley school board Tuesday is set to receive a presentation on the new student assessment system established statewide under the Common Core State Standards.

The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) replaced the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program last year.

The CAASPP discussion is one of two informational presentations scheduled for Tuesday night’s meeting. The school board will also hear an update on instructional technology in the district.

In other business, the board members will discuss initial bargaining proposals for a successor contract with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 1021 — which represents just over 200 maintenance, operations, transportation and other service workers in the school district.

Union officials ask that the whole contract remain open for negotiation this year while school district representatives want to focus bargaining talks on specific terms, including holiday overtime, health and welfare benefits, salaries and allowances, bus drivers and district guidelines for discipline.

The school board will weigh accepting the 2013-14 financial and performance audit reports for Measure D school facilities bond funds.

Board members will consider adopting resolutions in support of declaring March as Women’s History Month and Arts Education Month in the district. They will also discuss recommending regional representatives to serve on this year’s California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly.

The open-session school board meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 10) in the boardrooms at 699 Old Orchard Drive in Danville.
