Police have arrested a Walnut Creek woman and are searching for a Danville transient in connection with robbery at Home Depot in Pleasanton last weekend.

Detectives from the Pleasanton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit arrested Ainslee Smith, 25, in Fairfield on Tuesday, accusing her of being the woman identified in a Pleasanton Home Depot store video after several power tools were stolen on Saturday.

Pleasanton Police Sgt. Kurt Schlehuber said a warrant also has been issued for the arrest of 21 year-old Steven Proctor of Danville. Police allege he was the driver of a gold Lexus that struck a Home Depot loss prevention agent in the store’s parking lot during the robbery.

The Home Depot security officer was run down by the car as he tried to detain the woman who had just stolen several power tools. The woman then jumped into the vehicle and she and the driver drove away. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the culprits.

Smith, of Walnut Creek, was nabbed after Pleasanton detectives received a call from agents from Home Depot’s regional loss prevention office which was also investigating the robbery. The agents provided information of a similar crime that was committed at a the Home Depot earlier in Vacaville, identifying Smith and Proctor as suspects in that robbery.

The Pleasanton Home Depot security officer injured in the robbery identified Smith when shown a video from the Vacaville store as the one who stole the power tools in Pleasanton, according to police.

Smith was located in Fairfield and arrested for the robbery. She was later booked at Santa Rita Jail for robbery, assault and also possession of methamphetamine.

At the time of her arrest Smith was seated in the front seat of the Lexus that was used in the Pleasanton robbery, police said. A search of the Lexus resulted in evidence implicating Smith and Proctor, who Schlehuber said have a dating relationship.

Based upon the evidence recovered from the Lexus, a warrant was issued Thursday for Proctor’s arrest.

Proctor, who is transient, is at large and is known to frequently stay at East Bay area hotels. Anyone with information on his current whereabouts can contact the Pleasanton Police Department at 931-5100.
