Danville Mayor Mike Doyle and town officials are set to update the community on town activities over the past year and plans for the future during the annual State of the Town event this Thursday (April 23).

The Danville Area Chamber of Commerce will also present its annual community awards during the event, scheduled to run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive in Danville.

The luncheon event, sponsored by Chevron and Sutter Health, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, is open to the public and costs $35 per person. Reservations are required.

The State of the Town presentation will feature remarks by Doyle, a 24-year member of the Town Council, as well as a panel of key town officials, including Town Manager Joe Calabrigo, community development director Tai Williams and police chief Steve Simpkins.

Chamber officials announced the community award recipients last week.

Republic Services is the Business of the Year, and Kids’ Country is the Charitable Organization of the Year.

Ken Behring, Blackhawk developer and founder of the Wheelchair Foundation and the Global Health and Education Foundation, was named the Citizen of the Year.

Employee of the Year is Nancy LaBelle, from Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area.

The award winners will be honored during the luncheon Thursday. The master of ceremonies will be television news anchor Dan Ashley of ABC7 News.

  1. I hope Mike Doyle announces his retirement from the Council soon! He has been unwilling (and possibly unable) to engage in important Town matters for at least several years now. Essentially, he is just a sock puppet for special interests. If he still wants a title, let’s make him “honorary Council emeritus. Anything to get rid of him.

The current Town Council runs the Town of Danville for the benefit of developer-contractors such as Doyle’s fellow Council member Robert Storer, and homebuilders such as SummerHill Homes.

For example, Doyle and the rest of the Council acted to the benefit of SummerHill Homes to deprive Danville voters of their Measure S right to decide whether SummerHill’s 75-unit development for the Diablo Road corridor would go forward. The development will be on land promised to remain Open Space unless the voters decided otherwise. Fortunately, the Council’s actions have been held illegal by a trial court judge. Not surprisingly, the Council and SummerHill are still fighting for their development in the CA Court of Appeal. Let’s hope the Court stops the illegal activities once and for all!
