The San Ramon Valley’s two Teachers of the Year joined their 20 honored colleagues from across the county at a meet-and-greet event this week in Pleasant Hill.
Live Oak Elementary’s Sripriya Gopalan and Georgeann Kurtz from Gale Ranch Middle School got the chance to talk with the county’s other Teachers of the Year and learn more about the upcoming year during the reception Monday at the Contra Costa County Office of Education.
Many of the schools’ principals and district superintendents were also on hand, according to county officials.
All of the Contra Costa Teachers of the Year are set to be honored during a dinner celebration Sept. 24 at the Concord Hilton, with approximately 450 family members, friends, co-workers and other community members set to attend.
Gopalan, a former project manager in the technology industry, is a science specialist teacher at Live Oak. Kurtz, who also found a second career in teaching, is an English language development instructor and program coordinator at Gale Ranch.
Both schools are located in San Ramon’s Dougherty Valley.
