The 2600 office complex at San Ramon’s Bishop Ranch business park was recently awarded LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The new certification completes the mission of Sunset Development Co. — which owns and operates Bishop Ranch — to update all of its 27 buildings to LEED standards, becoming the largest group of buildings to receive the recognition outside of a metropolitan area, company officials said Monday.
“Our top priority has always been to be a committed partner in the community’s success, and an important part of that is working to protect and conserve our natural resources,” said Alexander Mehran Jr., president and COO of Sunset Development.
LEED (which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) recognizes building strategies and practices that result in saving money for businesses, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a healthier environment for workers, residents and the larger community, according to the Green Building Council.
The 2600 area is comprised of four interconnected buildings with 1.8 million square feet of office space. The complex was recently renovated to increase the efficiency of electricity and water use as well as incorporate the use of more green building materials, according to Sunset Development reps.
The Green Building Council awarded the LEED Gold certification for existing buildings operations to Bishop Ranch’s 2600 complex after completion of the renovations and a review of the buildings’ current energy use, maintenance and operations.
“Renovating 2600 to LEED Gold certification standards is the latest example of our pledge to create sustainable workplaces where people and business can flourish,” Mehran said.
