Firefighters contained a two-alarm vegetation fire in Danville on Tuesday afternoon, a San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District inspector said.

Crews responded at 1:24 p.m. to a report of a vegetation fire in the 400 block of El Alamo, near the Mount Diablo Trail, fire inspector Natalie Probert said.

Probert said arriving fire crews upgraded the fire to a second alarm based on the rate of spread, terrain and the potential for the fire to threaten nearby structures.

As of around 2:40 p.m., Probert said firefighters had stopped the forward spread of the flames, which had consumed roughly two acres of vegetation, and were remaining on scene to ensure any remaining embers were extinguished.

No injuries were reported and no homes or businesses were damaged, she said.

The fire was most likely caused by contractors cutting rebar in the area, Probert said.

The incident Tuesday comes one week after firefighters battled a grass fire that burned approximately 100 acres near Sycamore Valley Elementary School in Danville. Those flames were sparked by contractors using a grinder on a fence, Probert said.
