U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-Concord) announced that he has promoted staff member Shanelle Scales-Preston to the position of district director for his congressional office.
Scales-Preston, a Pittsburg native, had served as DeSaulnier’s director of community relations and before that, spent more than 13 years working for former local U.S. Rep. George Miller (D-Martinez), according to a statement from DeSaulnier’s office.
“A lifelong resident of Contra Costa County, Shanelle understands the importance of making sure government is accessible and effective for residents of the 11th Congressional District,” DeSaulnier, whose district includes Danville and Alamo, said in a statement.
“It has been an honor to work for Congressman DeSaulnier and to serve in the community where I was raised and that my family calls home,” Scales-Preston said. “I appreciate this opportunity and look forward to continuing to serve our district in my new role.”
Scales-Preston started her career in government working for DeSaulnier when he was on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. She later held multiple positions in Miller’s congressional office, including field representative, caseworker and office manager.
DeSaulnier succeeded Miller as 11th District representative last year, winning election in November after Miller announced his retirement after serving 20 straight terms.
