San Ramon police are asking for the public’s help in identifying an unknown man who stole cash from two local gas stations in the past few weeks, including an incident Monday afternoon, according to a department spokesman.

The man took about $500 from the Chevron at Montevideo Drive and Alcosta Boulevard around 3:35 p.m. Monday, and he also took about $200 from the Valero at Bollinger Canyon Road and Market Place on Nov. 7 around 1:20 p.m., Lt. Denton Carlson said.

In each incident, the robber waited for an employee to open the cash register and then jumped over the counter and forcibly took as much cash as he could grab before running from the store, Carlson said.

“The suspect did not display a weapon during either robbery and did not threaten anyone with a weapon,” the lieutenant added.

Carlson said investigators have reviewed video footage from both stores, and they pulled two still photographs from the videos and released the images to the public through the department’s social media accounts late Monday.

The robber is described as a black man, who witnesses said was about 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. “Based on video from the first incident, it looks like he has tattoos covering both arms,” Carlson added.

The man was last seen running west on Montevideo Drive just after Monday’s robbery, according to police. Anyone with information about the incidents can contact the department at 973-2760.
