Interstate 680 lanes were closed for several hours near Danville on Sunday afternoon following a fatal collision on the highway that killed one person, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The collision was first reported at 12:18 p.m. on I-680, just south of Sycamore Valley Road, according to CHP officials.

At least four vehicles were involved in the collision and a body was reported to be in the roadway, CHP officials said. Details about the person killed and others involved in the crash had not been released as of early Sunday evening.

CHP officials issued a Sig-alert and shut down two southbound lanes of the highway for nearly three hours as they investigated the incident.

  1. My daughter said that as she drives by this part of the 680 for work, there is constantly an accident there. She said there is some sort of dip in the road where water pools which she believes causes accidents in the same spot, south of Sycamore. I do hope the occurrences of accidents will be checked into at this section in case there is a problem with the road here during the rains.
