The San Ramon Valley school board is set to consider appointing residents Tuesday to serve on the district’s Facilities Oversight and Advisory Committee (FOAC), providing key input on current and future school facility needs and overseeing Measure D school bond spending among other tasks.
The committee consists of 15 members, seven of whom have terms expiring at the end of this month. The district recruited applicants in late fall and received submissions from 10 people — five current members and five new applicants.
“It should be noted that the applicants as a group are very experienced in community service with many having specialized knowledge about construction, finance and/or schools, though this background is not necessary to serve on this committee,” superintendent Rick Schmitt said in his staff report. “The district greatly appreciates the citizens who volunteered to provide this service to the community.”
The school board can appoint up to eight applicants to committee seats when it makes final decisions Tuesday night during a regular meeting scheduled to start at 7 p.m. inside the boardrooms at the district administrative complex at 699 Old Orchard Drive in Danville.

* The board will consider approving an easement for access and wall maintenance with a local homeowner association related to the soundwall located along the northern border of Bella Vista Elementary School in the Dougherty Valley.
As part of the agreement, Cordova at Gale Ranch Owners Association would be required to request permission from the school and the district for access to the site or to perform any type of maintenance on the wall, as well as secure liability insurance for work.
* Board members will adopt two proclamations: one declaring February as African-American History Month and one designating Feb. 6-10 as National School Counseling Week.
* Before the open meeting, the board will convene in closed session beginning at 6 p.m. to discuss labor negotiations for all three employee unions, two student expulsion cases, one case of existing litigation and discipline for an unspecified certificated employee.
