Sealing the deal is taking on a brand new meaning for Danville resident Pat Hurst.
After nearly two decades as a professional golfer that included closing out six LPGA victories, Hurst has now transitioned into a career in real estate lending. And she’s chosen her hometown of Danville to make her start.
“Rest assured I will bring a ton of energy, passion and integrity to my new profession,” Hurst said about her new professional role as a senior loan officer for Bay Equity Home Loans based in the downtown Danville office. She later quipped, “I believe the transition will be as smooth as my putting stroke.”
A Bay Area native, Hurst was raised in San Leandro and later starred as an All-American golfer at San Jose State University. She made her name known on the LPGA Tour right away, winning the Rookie of the Year honor in 1995.
Hurst earned the first of her six LPGA victories in 1997 and followed that up one year later with a women’s major title, a one-stroke win in the 1998 Nabisco Dinah Shore Classic (now known as the ANA Inspiration tournament).
She and her husband have made their home in Danville, which is where they met more than 25 years ago.
With her professional golfing career winding down, Hurst said she decided to look at the real estate industry as a next career option.
“I have recently earned my real estate license and soon realized that my sphere of influence was spread out across the United States,” she said. “Working for Bay Equity Home Loans gives me the opportunity to reach more people. It’s definitely a better fit.”
In her new career, Hurst said she looked forward to “being able to help people own their own home. Working as a loan officer in Danville allows me to reach out to the locals who reside in the same community.”
Bay Equity officials said they expected Hurst to thrive in real estate, using some of the same key skills that helped her excel on the golf course.
“We are very pleased Pat has chosen to become part of the Bay Equity family. Her drive and commitment to excellence will serve her well as she takes on this new career,” CEO Brett McGovern said.
“I have personally known Pat for more than 30 years, and she is a winner,” area sales manager John Rodrigues added. “I am thrilled she has chosen Bay Equity, and can’t wait to help her flourish in the mortgage lending arena.”
Hurst also isn’t completely stepping away from the professional golf world. She’s set to serve as an assistant captain for the United States team in the Solheim Cup against the Europeans this August. Hurst competed five times in the Solheim Cup as a player.
