Applications are now open for the inaugural San Ramon Citizen’s Planning Academy.

The academy, designed after the city’s Government 101 and Citizen Police Academy courses, is intended to educate residents in San Ramon’s planning process, including the purpose of planning, basic tools used, an individual project’s level of review and the city’s planning constraints, according to city officials.

The course will take place over the course of six weeks, starting Sept. 18.

Specifically, the academy includes two-hour meetings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on six consecutive Monday evenings, as well as a three-hour citywide Saturday tour on Oct. 14. At the end of the course, participants will serve in a mock Planning Commission hearing.

Twenty San Ramon residents will be selected for the academy through an application process. For more information or to submit an application, interested community members can visit http://www.sanramon.ca.gov/plan/planacademy.htm or contact planning/community development director Debbie Chamberlain at dchamberlain@sanramon.ca.gov.

Applications are due by Aug. 18.
