The 31st West Coast Nationals, one of the longest running events on the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association schedule, is set to gather over 3,000 hot rods, street rods, customs, muscle cars and trucks from all over the country for a three-day celebration of the American hot rod at the Alameda County Fairgrounds this weekend.

“At the 31st West Coast Nationals, fans will get a close up glimpse of just how eclectic the modern day hot-rodding scene is, though in spirit the Goodguys core message is unchanged after over 30 years — having fun with cars,” Goodguys officials said ahead of the showcase set for Friday to Sunday.

Highlights of the event include the crowning of the Goodguys 2017 Flowmaster America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod, which will be selected Saturday morning during the event from the Builder’s Choice Area, and the Nitro Thunderfest drag race, occurring Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Clock Tower.

The event will also showcase a large vendor midway, which will feature several multimillion-dollar custom big rig tractor trailers offering a variety of high-performance parts and accessories.

In addition, some other opportunities for interacting directly with manufacturers are an automotive swap meet, which will offer rare automotive equipment, and the Cars for Sale Corral.

There will also be several special display features at the event such as the Concours d’Elegance display, created by the Blackhawk Auto Museum, and the Bonneville Salt Flats racing display.

And for an element of nostalgia, the West Coast Nationals will feature an indoor Cushman display, a WEME Miniature Engine display and tether car racing — model racing cars that run on an internal combustion engine and are tethered to a pole.

The West Coast Nationals, an event open to all ages, will also include a wide array of activities and games for children, such as a model car make n’ take program that sends children home with their very own model kit, the PPG coloring contest and various arts and crafts.

The gates to the event are open Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

General admission is $20 for adults and $6 for children (ages 7-12). Alameda County Fairgrounds parking is $10. $17 general admission tickets are available online until midnight Thursday. There is a $5 off general admission for retired or active military with their military ID card.
