A new exhibit on California’s first inhabitants is now on display at the Museum of the San Ramon Valley in downtown Danville.

The exhibit, called “The First People of California,” showcases a variety of artifacts from Native American groups who lived in the area, including tools, clothing, games, examples of hunting and gathering and a basket collection.

The exhibit will run through Nov. 5.

In conjunction with the First People display, the museum will be hosting a special demonstration on flint knapping this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Ken Peek, a primitive skills demonstrator, will present the art of flint knapping, a skill developed by California’s early inhabitants that involved the striking of obsidian, chert, flint or other stone to create arrowheads, spears or knives.

The museum is located at 205 Railroad Ave. in Danville. Museum hours are 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and 12-3 p.m. on Sundays.
