The San Ramon Valley school district’s culturally responsive speaker series continues this week with Lori Watson, Ed.D., an educator and safe schools advocate who will give a presentation titled “Setting the Stage for Equity & Opportunity: An Introduction to Courageous Conversation.”
The speaker series is part of an effort by the district to spark discussions around diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom. So far, five experts have been scheduled to deliver talks at district high schools throughout the fall, with the first event already having taken place on Sept. 7.
Watson’s lecture will be held Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Dougherty Valley High School Theater from 4-5:30 p.m.
Watson is originally from Greenville, Miss., and attributes her work to the leaders and educators in her family.
She has been a teacher, coach and site administrator at middle and high school levels for 23 years, facilitating equity seminars nationally while a site administrator. When she was serving in the San Leandro Unified School District, she worked with district leadership to develop and implement policies, programs and practices to support LGBTQ students.
Watson holds a Bachelor of Arts in health and physical education from Tougaloo College, a Master of Science in education degree from Jackson State University and a Doctorate of Education from California State University East Bay.
