Local officials are raising awareness of a campaign that emphasizes the importance of water and related infrastructure.

Organized by the Value of Water Coalition, Imagine a Day Without Water is taking place on Oct. 12 this year.

“This is a day for all Bay Area residents to reflect on the importance of water in their life,” an excerpt from a statement signed by Dublin San Ramon Services District board president Richard Halket, Contra Costa Water District board president Lisa Borba and Central Contra Costa Sanitary District board president Paul Causey reads.

Imagine a Day Without Water encourages citizens to be aware of the value of water as well as the water and wastewater needs facing the nation. An economic study released by the Value of Water Coalition this year determined that a single nationwide day without water service would put $43.5 billion of economic activity at risk.

Current local water and wastewater infrastructure projects include the expansion of the recycled water plant in Pleasanton — a partnership between the city, DSRSD and East Bay Municipal Utility District — collaboration between Tri-Valley water agencies on a potable reuse feasibility study, and a sewer pipeline rehabilitation in Dublin.
