Several local students reported witnessing lewd activity by a strange man in a sedan along Bollinger Canyon Road last week, and the San Ramon Police Department is asking for help in finding the culprit.

San Ramon Valley Unified School District officials notified San Ramon police Thursday that multiple students had come forward to report observing lewd activity that took place the week before, according to SRPD Capt. Denton Carlson.

In the first incident, Oct. 5 around 4:30 p.m., two middle school students — a boy and a girl — were walking on Bollinger Canyon Road near Blossom Ridge Lane, when a man drove up in an older, dark gray, four-door sedan, Carlson said.

The man told the boy to walk away and asked the girl to come to his car, according to Carlson.

The girl approached the vehicle, at which point the driver asked if she had a girlfriend and tried to grab her shirt, according to Carlson. The girl looked inside the sedan and saw that the man was touching his exposed genitals, so she immediately backed away from the sedan and ran away.

Later that day, at about 5 p.m., another girl reported seeing the same vehicle and man around the area of Bollinger Canyon Road and Main Branch Road, Carlson said.

According to the captain, the man drove up alongside the student and asked her a series of random questions. When he asked, “What’s your name?” the student turned around and ran away.

Then on Oct. 10, girl from the first incident saw the man and car near Bollinger Canyon Road and Main Branch Road, but the man did not try to contact her at that time, Carlson said.

According to the SRPD, their suspect is described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, 5-foot-6, about 150 lbs., with dark hair, medium-toned skin, light facial hair, an overall “disheveled” appearance and a scar on his right cheek. The man was also described as speaking English with a “slight” Indian accent.

The dark gray sedan’s make and model is unknown, but it has out-of-state license plates, potentially from Nevada, according to Carlson.

Anyone with information that could help the police department identify the individual can contact SRPD at 973-2779.

In light of the incident, Carlson said the police department also suggests that parents talk to their children about the following safe, stranger-related practices:

* Don’t speak to strangers, even if they know your name.

* Walk directly to and from school using the same, daily route.

* Always walk or ride your bike with friends.

* Run directly to school or home if approached by a stranger.

* Immediately alert a school official or parent if strange activity is observed.
