Seven artists from a Danville assisted living community presented their artwork at the 25th annual Art with Elders Gala Exhibition in San Francisco in mid-October.
The celebration on Oct. 22 was the kick-off event for the exhibit, which will travel throughout San Francisco over the course of the next year. All seven of the artists from the Reutlinger Community, located at 4000 Camino Tassajara, are living in long-term care.
“Skill building is paramount as well as original thought, and plenty of surprises await the lucky viewers,” said Betty Rothaus, artist in residence at Reutlinger.
“The show also teaches that all people have creative ability, and that although the body and mind might have real challenges, it is the spirit that has the ability to continue to learn, grow and create,” Rothaus added.
At October’s exhibition, held at the Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, 104 elderly artists displayed their artwork.
“A year of hard work, learning new skills, exploring fresh creative frontiers and forming meaningful bonds among our art-making peers has again resulted in an exceptional Art with Elders annual exhibit,” said Mark Campbell, executive director of the program. “Certainly one of, if not the largest and most accomplished presentation of elder art in the Bay Area.”
