Local U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Dublin) will host his last town hall of the year this Saturday in San Ramon, an event that will be preceded by a rally urging Swalwell to support articles of impeachment recently introduced against President Donald Trump.

At the town hall, Swalwell will provide an update on recent events and discussions taking place in Washington, D.C., including the Republican tax plan and the ongoing investigation of Russia’s interference in the U.S. election. He will then answer constituents’ questions.

The meeting is scheduled to take place from 9:30-11 a.m. at the California High School cafeteria, 9870 Broadmoor Drive. All residents of the 15th Congressional District — which includes San Ramon, Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore — are welcome.

Before the town hall, local citizen groups Indivisible East Bay and Alameda4Impeachment plan to hold a rally at Cal High calling for Swalwell to support investigating impeachable charges against President Trump.

“This president is a clear and present danger to our democracy and he needs to go,” said Ward Kanowsky, 15th District co-lead for Indivisible East Bay.

LeAnn Kanowsky, his co-lead partner, added, “Coming together sends a strong message to Rep. Swalwell and the rest of the California Congressional delegation that this president needs investigation into his potential violation of the Foreign Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution and other crimes such as obstruction of justice and abuse of power.”

Earlier this year, four communities in the East Bay passed local resolutions calling on Congress to initiate impeachment: Richmond, Alameda, Berkeley and Oakland. And according to reporting by the Associated Press, on Nov. 15 a half-dozen Democrats in the House of Representatives introduced articles of impeachment against the president, though without much expectation of success in the Republican-led House.

In addition to San Ramon, Swalwell’s 15th congressional district includes Pleasanton, Hayward, Union City, Dublin, Livermore, parts of Fremont and Danville, and the unincorporated areas of Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, Sunol, Ashland, Cherryland and Fairview.

  1. Maybe Swalwell should be impeached for not representing all of his constituents. He certainly does not represent me. Swalwell is simply a tool of Pelosi & Feinstein. Better yet, he should resign.

  2. Rep. Swalwells’s job is to represent his district at the federal level. He is not involved in how California taxes or spends its money. If you are upset about CA taxes and spending you need to write to Steve Glazer or Catherine Baker.
What he can impact is how the federal government is about to pass a tax bill that that for no other reason is to give the current administration a “win”. If you believe that allowing corporations to keep more of their money is going to create jobs and increase salaries….. well, think about that, corporations are already flush with cash and has your pay been going up? And as Californians we lose the ability to deduct state taxes paid from out gross pay, in effect we are getting taxed twice on the same money.

  3. geez, this forum is rough on Swalwell. Y’all should check by what margins he was elected and re-elected by. And also remember Calif is very blue state, with some GOP holdouts; plus the really smart voters ‘decline to state’ party….

  4. The only thing worse than US Rep Swalwell is US Senator Swalwell – – If he’s not using his House gig as a springboard to the Senate, he’s wasting his time elbowing his way in front of every TV camera or in front of any reporter who will listen to his drivel.

  5. Eric is doing a good job – Corporations are flush with cash, rich people (top 1%) are richer then ever, and they (GOP) will give more tax cut to people not needing the money… While I am happy to get more tax breaks, there are people in San Ramon who are struggling to just pay the bills. This exercise will not end well (e.g. Kansas, North Carolina, Louisiana) are a few examples of bad money management. I am a fiscal conservative (don’t like paying tax), however, when the entire federal budget goes to (Defense, Social Security, Medical/Medicaid) there is a problem.

At this point – No one should be getting a tax break. Taxes should go up if you make more than $1M per/year, spending should get a 20% cut, increase Social Security to all income, etc… until the debt is paid off and budget is balance. Until someone comes to their senses we are in for a hurting by mid-next year.

  6. Eric (pronounced “ear ache”) Swalwell is a typical tax and spend liberal. He will only make problems worse.

    No thank you.

So you want a tax increase, eh? You might get your wish. If you want to get a rough estimate of how things will be, get out last year’s TurboTax and see what happens to your federal tax liability after you remove the deduction for California income tax. Mine rose quite a bit.

The Republican tax plan will raise taxes on a lot of people in the Danville / San Ramon area.
