The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man who died while in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility on Wednesday.
Deputies said it appears David Hubbard, 46, of San Pablo, died of a health-related issue.
The cause of his death is pending the results of toxicology tests.
On Wednesday at 10:37 a.m., deputies were serving lunch when they discovered an inmate was not responsive.
Medical staff attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was later pronounced deceased.
Hubbard was originally arrested by Richmond police and was being held on charges that included stalking, assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence and possession of child pornography, deputies said.
His bail had been set at $1,655,000.
