Back by popular demand is the Danville-sponsored kids summer music program Kidchella: A Children’s Reading & Music Festival.
Starting Wednesday, the town of Danville will provide its younger residents with family-fun events focused around story time and musical sing-alongs, each day beginning at the Danville Library and then migrating to the Town Green. Organizers say the event is “well-suited” for families with children 6 years old and younger.
The three-day children’s music festival is free and will take place on three different days throughout the summer: this Wednesday on June 20, July 18, and August 8.
The festival opens Wednesday with the children’s Bay Area entertainment band Octopretzel. Octopretzel is a folk band that has a set list full of original songs as well as tried and true traditional favorites.
Their music incorporates a diverse set of sounds ranging from bluegrass and rock and roll to African drumming, klezmer fiddling and Middle Eastern percussion.
The Raytones, alongside their mascot Ray the Rhino, will headline the second day of the program on July 18. The four man — and one rhinoceros — rock band will bring their signature California surfer rock sound to the stage with fan favorites such as “Stop, Walk & Go,” “The Beach, Baby. Yeah!” and of course, “I Love Balloons!” which has nearly one million views on YouTube.
The festival will culminate on Aug. 8, with a performance by Adam Gottstein. The solo singer-songwriter will be playing both acoustic originals and timeless favorites for children.
Each day of the festival opens at 11:15 a.m. with preschool music and story time at the Danville Library, 400 Front St. The event will then really kick off with a headlining band across the street on the Town Green, 420 Front St., at noon.
From 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. the party continues with music-themed arts and crafts and a Story Walk on the Town Green. The Arts & Rec on the Go! van will make an appearance to lead fun games and activities for the whole family.
