Cars illegally parking and obstructing the roadway on the streets surrounding Hap Magee Ranch Park has become such an issue that Danville police have started a campaign to conduct enforcement activities in the area.

According to Danville Police Chief Allan Shields, the issue is typically caused by parents and students who converge on Hap Magee Ranch Park in order to take pictures prior to school events, such as prom or graduation.

Groups will park illegally creating unsafe hazards that block driveways, sidewalks and the roads themselves, according to Shields.

To discourage the trend, Shields has stated that officers will be conducting these enforcement activities during school events and will issue citations to illegally parked vehicles.

“We ask the community to please be respectful of the law, and the property of those who live near Hap Magee Ranch Park. No one wants to spoil Prom or Ball by getting ticketed for illegal parking,” Shields said via the DPD’s Facebook page. “Let’s make it a safe and happy celebration season.”

He said parents and students who want to take photos at the park are still encouraged to do so, so long as they park safely and legally. If the nearby parking lot is full, Shields suggested that drivers park legally down La Gonda Way and walk to the park.
