Recognizing the exceptional financial management by the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (Central San), the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the district the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2018-19 fiscal year budget document.

Receiving the award for the first time in its history, Central San earned the designation due to its fiscal year budget document serving as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device that guides the district, according to the GFOA rating system.

“This award represents a significant achievement, reflecting the commitment of Central San’s Board of Directors to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting, accounting and financial transparency,” said Roger S. Bailey, Central San’s general manager.

Central San — which provides sewer services in Danville, parts on San Ramon and unincorporated San Ramon Valley — has a long history of excellent financial management, prior to receiving this award the district had earned GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the last 19 consecutive years.

As a part of its efforts to encourage state and local governments to prepare high quality budget documents, for the 2018-19 season the GFOA gave its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to 461 government agencies throughout the nation.
