In response to the California Department of Public Health revising its physical distancing guidelines for public schools, the San Ramon Valley Unified Schools District Board of Education will discuss bringing students back to full-day, in-person instruction for four days a week during a special meeting on Thursday.
The four-day in-person week will be available only for students whose families have already chosen to return to hybrid in-person learning. Under the proposed plan, would would begin the week of Monday, March 29, Mondays would continue to be remote; however, students would return to full-time learning on campus Tuesdays through Fridays.
“We believe that this change to full-day, in-person will be very good for some of our students, but we also want to be clear that we will continue to support our remote learners, as well,” Superintendent John Malloy said in a staff report to the board.
The decision was initiated after state’s revisions of its distancing guideline, which have reduced social distancing mandates from 6 to 3 feet, aligning California’s policies with those established by the U.S. Center for Disease Control.
The SRVUSD Board of Education’s special meeting is set at 6 p.m. on Thursday (March 25). Interested residents can view the meeting live on the SRVUSD’s YouTube channel.
Residents can provide public comment live at meetings by logging in or dialing into the district’s Zoom meeting, which can be accessed on the district’s Quicklinks on the SRVUSD homepage.

I hope that the SRVUSD will consider offering the proposed 4 days back in school option to ALL STUDENTS. We chose to keep our student on the remote learning plan not because its working, in fact its not working well at all. Kids need to be in class face to face with their teachers. There is no better way to learn. We and I know many other parents felt forced to continue with the remote learning option because the Hybrid model was even worse with two days at home not even online with teachers but expected to “learn” on their own unsupervised. If students are allowed back in the classrooms for four days a week all students deserve that option as well.
Here we go again…. As a parent, the district was VERY clear on what OPTIONS you had to pick from. If you picked Remote Learning, that was your choice. The information was repeated over and over, along with the detailof what would take place as the situation improved. Nobody was forced. I get really tired of hearing “I want this, I want that” always blaming the school district in a roundabout way. We are all lucky we live in an area where our district has worked so hard, and is LEADING in getting our kids back to normal. Be thankful, and STOP blaming the district for making a decission you did not completely process at the time. It was a difficult decission to make, but go forward knowing they are doing all they can to help your children every single day. Remember, they did not create this situation, they just had to manage it. I can only imagine the amount of work that has gone into every detail. So for once, please, zip the lip and just be grateful we are moving forward.
